Yesterday, riot police were seen detaining protestors and journalists at a rally in the capital, Minsk. Mr Lukashenko has threatened sanctions against neighbouring Lithuania, which is now home to the main Belarus opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – who fled there for her own safety.
