STORYLINE:
Catholics gathered Tuesday to pay their respects to Pope Francis at a memorial service in Taipei, following the death of the 88-year-old pontiff.
Worshippers wrote messages of condolence and lit incense at the service organized by the Catholic Archdiocese of Taipei.
“He was always like a father to us. And like a family members who goes away, I feel that I want to keep hold of him, but I can’t," said retired Catholic magazine employee Judy Lee.
The Argentine pope died Monday after a stroke put him in a coma and led his heart to fail. He had been recovering in his apartment after being hospitalized for five weeks with pneumonia. He made his last public appearance Sunday, delivering an Easter blessing and greeting followers from his popemobile, looping around St. Peter’s Square.
