STORYLINE:
After being indicted on federal bribery and conspiracy charges last year, the mayor of Mississippi’s capital is now fighting to keep his job. Jackson Mayor Choke Antar Lumumba is facing off against State Sen. John Horhn in a democratic primary runoff on April 22, 2025.

It’s a match up Jackson voters have seen before. In 2017, Lumumba and Horhn ran against each other for mayor. Lumumba won the democratic primary outright, earning 55% of the vote. This time around, Lumumba’s vote share dropped to 17% in the April 1 primary with Horhn securing 48%, leading to Tuesday’s runoff.
