STORYLINE:
Every year on Easter Monday, the traditional St. George’s ride takes place in southern Germany.
Local residents of the region wearing historical costumes ride through a meadow to receive blessings along with their horses at the St. George church in Traunstein.
Spectators follow the procession from the town square up to the church.
St. George’s rides usually take place around the feast day of St. George (April 23) and mostly in villages whose churches or chapels are dedicated to St. George.
Festively decorated horses and carriages parade to the church, which is then ridden around.
Horses and riders are then blessed during the service.
This is often followed by competitions of skill, or historical performances.
