6. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
"We have heard from Washington at different levels that the NATO membership for Ukraine was excluded. That is, of course, a matter for our satisfaction, coincides with our position that Ukraine shouldn’t be a NATO member and shouldn’t have any prospects to integrate into NATO. It would be a threat for the national interests of the Russian Federation."
STORYLINE:
Russia will inform “all the interested parties” about alleged Ukrainian violations of a temporary Easter ceasefire declared by President Putin on Ukraine, the Kremlin said Monday.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added Russia “remains open to searching for a peaceful settlement and is continuing to work with the American side,” adding that “we certainly hope that this work will produce results.”
Peskov also noted that Russia has been satisfied with statements from Washington that excluded NATO membership for Ukraine.
