“I heard a grumbling noise and at first, I thought it was an earthquake. But when I walked out of my house I saw (discarded) bulldozer and truck tires rolling into my front yard and scattering over my land. I rushed to wake up my neighbour, Mara, to tell her that we must flee. I said: ‘we must run, or this will end us."

“When my neighbour woke me up, I had no idea what was happening. When I got out, my house was buried in garbage up to a half of its height. Now that the water pulled back, you can see what is left behind, all from the landfill that has been in use for 55 or more years.”

“Me personally, as (municipal) mayor and (my administration) have tried to solve this problem repeatedly, but it is a huge problem and solving it would require an investment of at least 2 to 3 million (Bosnian) convertible marks (€0.5-1.2 million) which the municipality of Vlasenica does not have.”

“This should serve as a warning about the impact of irresponsible actions by individuals from neighbouring municipalities and other locations who have been dumping their garbage here for days and nights on end. As you can see, it is bulky waste and it cannot decay naturally, it must be treated and disposed of at appropriate locations.”
