There were panicked moments in Turkey this morning, as a 6.2 earthquake rocked several cities in the western part of the country. The tremors caused the minaret of Istanbul’s famed Fatih Sultan Mehmet Mosque to sway in the air. The country is no stranger to seismic activity; memories of a devastating 2023 earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria are still fresh. Over 50,000 people died in that disaster. This week’s quake seems mild in comparison.
