STORYLINE:
South Korea’s KOSPI was off to a positive start on Friday morning, after U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks on negotiations with China.
At approximately 10 a.m., in Seoul, the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) was at 2472.08, which was 0.08 percent higher than Thursday’s closing point.
Asian shares are mixed after a bumpy ride on Wall Street.
Most U.S. stocks rose, but the worst drop for UnitedHealth Group in a quarter century kept Wall Street in check.
The S&P 500 edged up 0.1% Thursday even as three-quarters of the stocks climbed within the index.
Another drop for Nvidia helped pull the Nasdaq composite down 0.1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slumped 1.3%.
That was largely because UnitedHealth Group lost more than a fifth of its value for its worst drop since 1998 after a weaker-than-expected profit report. Treasury yields rose following mixed data on the U.S. economy.
President Donald Trump again criticized the Federal Reserve for not lowering interest rates.
