South Korean stock market opens higher amid eased U.S tariffs woes

STORYLINE:
South Korean stocks ticked up in early trade Thursday after the central bank announced it would keep interest rates steady.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) was trading at 2460.12 in mid-morning, about 0.5% higher than Wednesday’s closing level.

The Bank of Korea said it would hold its baseline interest rate steady at 2.75%.

Despite the prospect of a snap election later in the year and uncertainty over the Trump administration’s tariffs, the KOSPI has gained around 2.4% so far this y ear.
