"Well, water is very scarce here. We rarely get water here. We live near the university, so we come here running to fill up a gallon or two of water. One truck comes for the entire university (for displaced people who live in university), the water is very scarce."

"Water, is the simplest thing. We’re not asking for luxury. Our most basic rights are food, drink, water, and treatment. The simplest rights of any civilian, any people, any person in the world. What we’ve lived through is enough. How long will the situation continue like this? How long? We’re exhausted. By God, we’re exhausted and our children are exhausted. And we’re even more exhausted for our children. There is no education, no life, no treatment, no food, no drink."

"This is the life that we have in Gaza, waking up to run after water and wood. This is the life that we live. As for studying or education, there is none of that. The life of a child like this one and this one is to just grab a container and run after a water truck."

STORYLINE:
Palestinians in the Gaza cities of Khan Younis and Jabaliya lined up in front of a water truck Wednesday, clutching containers and jerrycans, hoping to fill them with whatever water is available amid ongoing severe water scarcity across the territory.

"Water, is the simplest thing. We’re not asking for luxury. Our most basic rights are food, drink, water, and treatment," said Nevin al-Dahloul, who is displaced from Beit Lahiya.

"How long will the situation continue like this? How long? We’re exhausted. By God, we’re exhausted."

Deputy Director of the Coastal Water Utility Omar Shatat told The Associated Press that each person gets six to seven liters of potable water each day.

"We are experiencing a water catastrophe. This is not a normal situation at all. And this is of course reflected on the general health situation in the Gaza Strip,” he said.

The aid blockade in Gaza imposed by Israel has entered its seventh week, with people and aid groups reporting that food aid and much needed supplies are running out.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA said in an update on Wednesday that humanitarians on the ground are reporting a rise in acute malnutrition across the Gaza Strip.

Community kitchens across the Gaza Strip prepare over one million meals each day, but they’re barely enough to serve people’s nutritional needs, according to OCHA.

Most of Gaza’s population access food through aid supplies and charity kitchens.

"The whole situation is difficult, from every aspect: flour, water, gas and everything else. It’s difficult for everyone, not just one person. People are suffering and dying slowly," said Hanaa Wadi from Jabaliya.

Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed over 51,000 people, according to an updated toll released by Gaza’s Health Ministry on Tuesday.
