“The Chinese Ministry of Commerce maintains work-level communication with the corresponding departments of the U.S. China’s position has always been clear, and it holds an open attitude towards consultations with the U.S. in the field of economy and trade. The unilateral imposition of tariffs is entirely initiated by the United States, and whoever started the trouble should end it. We urge the U.S. to immediately stop the extreme pressure, cease coercion and extortion and resolve the problems with China through equal dialogue on the basis of mutual respect.”

STORYLINE:
China’s ministry of commerce said Thursday it maintains work-level with the corresponding department in the U.S., as the world’s two largest economies steadily increase tariffs on each other’s goods.
He Yongqian, spokesperson of the ministry, told a news conference in Beijing that China “holds an open attitude” towards consultations with the U.S.
China faces 145% taxes on exports to the U.S., while President Donald Trump’s administration gave dozens of other countries a 90-day reprieve for most duties.
Beijing has hit back at the U.S. with 125% tariffs on American exports, while stressing its determination to keep its own markets open to trade and investment.
He Yongqian blamed the tariff war on the United States.
“Whoever started the trouble should end it,” she said.
She urged the U.S. to stop "actions of pressure, coercion and extortion and conduct equal dialogue with China."
