The world is paying tribute to Pope Francis, who has died at the age of 88. Details of his passing were confirmed a short time ago by the Vatican.
The news comes just a day after Francis emerged briefly in public on Sunday in front of thousands gathered in St Peter’s Square to deliver an Easter blessing. He had recently spent more than a month in hospital with double pneumonia.
