"At the moment, the situation seems to have calmed down. The DAX is up more than 1%, and was also up significantly yesterday. However, if you take a closer look, you can see that the DAX is of course benefiting in particular from the new considerations (of the Trump administration) to suspend the tariffs for automobiles and automotive suppliers."

4. SOUNDBITE (German) Arthur Brunner, director of Market Making Bonds ICF Bank AG:
"The pressure on the automotive industry is being maintained. They are simply being given a bit of air to breathe. They (the Trump administration) threatened to impose the harshest penalties first and now want to go into negotiations to get a concession from the auto industry on investment in the U.S."

STORYLINE:
Germany’s DAX index continued to rise at a slower pace on Tuesday morning, following a rise of almost three percent the previous day, further reducing the losses caused by the tariff shock triggered by U.S. President Donald Trump at the beginning of April.

The DAX surpassed the 21,000 point mark in the first few minutes of trading and rose by 0.85% to 21,133 points.

"At the moment, the situation seems to have calmed down," said Arthur Brunner, director of Market Making Bonds at ICF Bank AG.

"However, if you take a closer look, you can see that the DAX is of course benefiting in particular from the new considerations (of the Trump administration) to suspend the tariffs for automobiles and automotive suppliers," he explained.

Following the exemption for certain electronic products, Trump has now also held out the prospect of at least temporary exemptions from far-reaching tariffs for car manufacturers.

"The pressure on the automotive industry is being maintained. They are simply being given a bit of air to breathe," Brunner said.
