And we didn’t wait for more advanced batteries, so we think even with today’s batteries, you can fly an aircraft like this, which is a very light-weight aircraft. And you can go relatively short distances. But that’s really, really useful. Most people when they get in their car and they drive to work, to the grocery store, they are going very short distances. So you can do that with today’s technology.”

“At first, I thought it would be really difficult, but once I got on, I was able to ride it easily right away. Really, just shifting your weight slightly allows you to move forward. I want to ride this again in the future. I hope it becomes widespread.”

“Let’s say I’m an astronaut, going to space every time would be dangerous. But if I could use this master device to control the robot again, I could work from a safe place in Japan, and only the robot would go to space. That would enable one person to do two roles, and this could lead to a new way of working.”

STORYLINE:
Expo 2025 has officially opened in Osaka. The theme: life, the world, and the future.
Japan hopes the event will promote unity and show what future societies could look like.
More than 160 countries, regions and organizations are taking part.
Crowds of visitors are drawn to demonstrations of dexterous robots, promising to help with an array of different tasks.
Meanwhile, other demonstrations are taking to the skies.
At the Expo’s “Vertiport” companies are showing off flying cars.
The first demo comes from Lift Aircraft, a U.S.-based company. Their one-person aircraft, called Hexa, rises about 10 meters into the air and hovers above the event.

Nearby, visitors are testing hands-free electric wheelchairs. They’re called Uni-One.
Users control the chair by leaning and twisting.
When activated, the chair lifts to bring the rider closer to eye level.
Honda, the developer, says it could help people with lower-body disabilities. The design keeps their hands free while moving through daily tasks.
With some big ideas and very bold designs, Expo 2025 is bringing the future that little bit closer.
Expo 2025 Osaka opened on April 13 and runs for 6 months until October 13 2025 on Yumeshima.
