4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mounir Al-Masri, former fighter:
"When it comes to the 50th anniversary of the Lebanese war, they call it a civil war. We look back, as for the new coming generation, I hope they should learn from the mistakes, so they don’t go through the same thing we went through. Because war doesn’t solve anything, they called it the Lebanese war but there were gaps in the Lebanese constitution at that time. I used to consider myself a third-class citizen. I hope it becomes a state of citizenship, when we first took action and took up arms, it was to defend our people."

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mounir Al-Masri, former fighter:
“My brother was killed here by a sniper on this very street. This is my brother and this is my friend. Every night, I walk these streets and remember the exact spot where he was martyred. May God have mercy on him. Glory be to God. Here, Majed Mobaid and Mohammed Safar were martyred, and here Joseph Khoury was martyred, one of our Christian brothers. He stood with us on the front line. At the same time those facing us were also people of my neighborhood."
7. Various of damaged and bullet-ridden walls
8. Various of recently built condo seen through a damaged wall
9. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mounir Al-Masri, former fighter:
“I miss the young men who lost their lives. They are firstly my siblings, my cousins and at the same time my people and my friends. I remember why they were martyred and I ask myself why I am still alive. I was affected by the Lebanese war, of course. No one who goes through the conditions we went through can remain unaffected.”

11. Tilt-down from hotel and building damaged in the 1975 civil war to traffic
12. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Fadi Haidar, Lebanese citizen:
"It was a sectarian war based on identity. Major powers intervened in Lebanon, arming people against each other. They created a national front and a national movement. They divided the country to east and west, hunger and displacement. What can I even tell you? War! Here in Ras El Nabeh, this was a focal fighting point. If you can picture it, there are still traces of destruction. The marks of the war are still on the walls.”

15. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Fadi Haida, Lebanese citizen:
"We were forced into the war, just like all the Lebanese parties were forced into it. No one wanted the war. No one loves war, but I don’t know what happened. I mean, we were all forced to defend ourselves and that’s how the war happened. It just kept growing and growing and growing.”
