‘100 percent’ chance of tariff deal with EU says Trump | DW News

Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni has met with US Vice President JD Vance in Italy, just a day after meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House.

Trump said there was a "100 percent" chance that the US would reach a deal with the European Union on his tariffs. There’s currently a 10 percent import levy on all imports from the EU.

Meloni’s charm offensive comes as the right-wing Italian leader has positioned herself as something of a Trump whisperer and a bridge builder between the US and Europe.

DW spoke to political scientist Antonio Zotti from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan about Meloni’s visit. He shared his insights on Meloni and Trump’s close relationship.

Riccardo Alcaro from the Insitute for International Affairs, a thinktank based in Rome also joined us. Alcaro explained that while Meloni may have won warm words from Trump, any gains could be elusive under such an unpredictable administration.
