“Straight ahead of us here is our switch gear. It’s a main power coming in. It is an all-electric paint shop So it’s much larger than what you might see in other paint shops.”

“Fundamentally, what you see here is exactly what we’ve intended years ago. It’s to meet this American moment. We’re restoring an American icon called Scout. We’re building a factory right here in the heart of America. And of course, we’re bringing fantastic jobs to America. So this is what all the headlines are all about, and it’s exactly what Scout’s been about since its inception.”

“Yeah, look, I’m not going to speak overall on tariffs. I think you can all read tons of headlines and navigate your own thoughts. I think specifically for Scout, it’s quite clear. I think if you look at why we did what we did, the intent was bring back an iconic American brand, make the car here in America, engineer the car in America, design the car, here in America and overwhelmingly sell the car here in America. So this, maybe complicated American moment is basically what Scout was made for. “

“As of right now on the construction side, the heavy duty stuff I would say has been sourced, right? The steel is in place, you can see it there. The equipment that’s going to be working its way for the most part has been sourced and it’s on its way. So, I see relative stability. Is it all perfect, every contract dialed in and if something changes somewhere around the world, there could be an impact. But I feel relatively stable because the phase we’re in, either it’s in-place already, it’s been contracted or it’s close to being sourced. So, I feel relatively good about it. But again, it’s a speculative question because, yeah, it’s moving every day.”

STORYLINE:
President Donald Trump’s new tariffs threaten to push up prices on clothes, mobile phones, furniture and many other products in the coming months. That could end the era of cheap goods that Americans enjoyed for about a quarter-century before the pandemic.
In return, administration officials hope the import taxes create more high-paying manufacturing jobs by bringing production back to the United States.
It is a politically risky trade-off that could take years to materialize, and it would have to overcome tall barriers, such as the automation of most modern factories.
In a media tour of the new Scout Motors car plant in Blythewood, South Carolina, the company’s CEO said, "Fundamentally, what you see here is exactly what we’ve intended years ago. It’s to meet this American moment. We’re restoring an American icon called Scout. We’re building a factory right here in the heart of America. And of course, we’re bringing fantastic jobs to America. So this is what all the headlines are all about, and it’s exactly what Scout’s been about since its inception. And I think you can see exactly what it takes. to manufacture, build, dream, and do things again in America.”
