4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Nema Faragallah, displaced from al-Mughraqa in south Gaza:
“There is no food or anything to drink. The crossings are closed. As you can see, getting vegetables is really hard. We haven’t received vegetables for a year and a half. My children and I escaped death coming out from al-Mughraqa. There is nothing in al-Mughraqa, neither a home or a tree. Nothing is still standing there. We’re tired from this situation. There is no flour and bread either you can see. I swear since flour stopped coming in, we haven’t seen bread.”

“I completely rely on charity kitchens. If those charity kitchens close, my children and I will die because I don’t have income. In order to get my share of food, I come here at 5:30."

STORYLINE:
Crowds of Palestinians lined up for hours in a playground on Friday waiting for their share of food being distributed by a charity kitchen in central Gaza.

Those waiting, including many children, stood in front of large pots where charity workers scooped out rice, the day’s only meal, to those anxiously waiting for their share.

Some were seen packing their cooked rice into plastic bags.

“There is no flour or gas or wood. Everything is expensive and there is no money," said Reem Oweis, a displaced woman from al-Mughraqa in south Gaza, who stood carrying an empty plastic container.

Israel has ramped up its offensive in Gaza, trying to pressure Hamas to agree to free hostages, 59 of whom are still being held, more than half of which are dead.

It has imposed a blockade on food, fuel and humanitarian aid entering the enclave that has left civilians facing acute shortages.

With aid supplies dwindling, Nema Faragallah, another displaced woman from al-Mughraqa, said that on top of having no income, there are no vegetables, flour, and bread.

“I completely rely on charity kitchens. If those charity kitchens close, my children and I will die,” she said.
