STORYLINE:
Friends and relatives mourn some of the victims of the roof collapse of the Jet Set nightclub on Tuesday, while authorities scramble to identify bodies at Dominican Republic’s forensic institute.

Fifty-four victims have been identified so far. At least 184 people were killed and more than 250 others injured when disaster struck early Tuesday at the legendary Jet Set club in Santo Domingo.

Officials have called for calm, saying they have already delivered 28 bodies to their families.

A group from the town of Haina carried candles and sang religious hymns in a small memorial in a square in Santo Domingo for the 25 victims from their hometown, many of them musicians who travelled to the capital to play at the Jet Set at the night of the collapse.

In tears, the cultural manager, Glenis Rodriguez, remembered Rubby Perez, who was also from Haina. “ He was a humble person, and we will remember him as he was,” she said.

The body of the icon Rubby Pérez, who had been singing to the crowd before disaster struck was found early Wednesday.

Friends entered the Funeral home in Santo Domingo to attend to his funeral.

The government announced Wednesday evening that it was suspending the search for survivors and moving into the recovery phase after 145 people were rescued from the wreckage of the nightclub. Rescue crews from Puerto Rico and Israel had arrived early Wednesday to help with the search.
