STORYLINE:
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed Britain’s King Charles III to the Villa Pamphili in Rome for talks on Wednesday.
An honour guard on horseback yelled out “Honours to his Majesty” before the king and the Prime Minister proceeded down the long red carpet to the villa.
Later on Wednesday the king will be making a speech to a joint session of the Italian parliament.
The visit comes as Charles and Queen Camilla were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday.
But the royal couple will not be having a romantic dinner for two.
Instead they are set to attend a state banquet hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella at Rome’s Quirinale Palace.
Charles and Camilla are on a four-day visit to Italy.
On Tuesday they briefly visited the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
On Thursday they will spend the day in the northern Italian town of Ravenna.
