STORYLINE:
The fallout from last week’s severe weather continues to haunt communities across the U.S. southeast.

In Dyersburg, Tennessee, several families were forced to evacuate midday on Monday after floodwaters swept into the south side of town.

"It’s been a really stressful time," said Michael Glass, who has lived in a family home in the neighbourhood for more than 20 years. "I had to decide whether to stay or get out. And they turned off the water, so I kind of have no choice but to find other shelter."

Glass says he and his wife and three children will be staying at a hotel for now.

Although her house has not been affected, with only water in the yard, Kathy Ditto says she feels the urge to move to her sister’s house. All she is taking with her are her two dogs, some clothes and toiletries. She says she fears for her house if the water continues to rise. "This is my life. I mean, my kids, my grandkids, and everybody comes over, you know," Ditto says.

Dyersburg was hit by a tornado last Wednesday, causing $2 million in damage, according to Mayor John Holden.

Monday’s floodwaters were so high that authorities had to use boats to rescue some residents from their homes. They are being temporarily housed in a storm shelter.
