STORYLINE:
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee pledged to strengthen strategies to address the U.S. tariffs in a weekly press briefing on Tuesday.
Lee blasted the latest U.S. tariffs as "bullying", saying the "ruthless behaviour" has damaged global and multilateral trade and brought great risks and uncertainties to the world.
He said the city would fully seize opportunities in China’s development, sign more free trade agreements with other economies and continue to push for Hong Kong’s accession to the 15-nation Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
Among other policies Lee mentioned were advancing international financial cooperation, attracting foreign companies and capital to Hong Kong at a time when the trade war is prompting reallocation of global funds, and supporting Hong Kong enterprises to cope with the tariff impact.
He also condemned the U.S. sanctions on 6 officials last week, adding that they once again demonstrated the barbarity under American hegemony.
