STORYLINE:
Myanmar’s rescuers and international rescuers were still clearing away rubble on Monday in Naypyitaw, the nation’s capital, left by a massive earthquake near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city.

The death toll rose to 3,564 on Sunday, with 5,012 people injured and 210 missing, the military said in a statement.

The 7.7 magnitude quake hit a wide swath of the country, causing significant damage to six regions and states including the capital Naypyitaw.

The earthquake left many areas without power, telephone or cell connections and damaged roads and bridges, making the full extent of the devastation hard to assess.

In Naypyitaw, people cleared the debris and collected wood from their damaged houses in the wards under the thin drizzle on Monday.
