"When I arrived, I discovered the synagogue in complete ruins. We decided with the people of Asilah, old men, to restore the synagogue. We restored it with great love. All the people of Asilah drew me what the synagogue looked like, and with their drawings, I had the synagogue restored to its original state, including everything in the walls, even the pews. They gave me pieces of pews, and I restored them."

"For years, I had kept religious objects from various synagogues that had been closed. And with that, I was able to fill the synagogue, which I also did with the museum in Tangier and others. You see, even the carpets, they’re all old carpets, especially, that belonged to families and that we reused."

"It’s as if you were going back 200 years, because this Mikveh was almost 200 years old. And the special thing is that there’s an oven that heated the water in the hammam on the first floor. The women would go up, clean themselves properly, bathe properly, and then go down to the Mikveh to purify themselves. The Mikveh has specific rules that are given in the Torah, and the woman purifies herself when she enters, she kneels and submerges herself three times. When she emerges from this water, the rabbis say it’s like a baby emerging from its mother’s womb."

"We asked for these places to become state monuments and state heritage. Now we’ve succeeded. After two years, we received an announcement that the Minister of Culture has registered these three places as state heritage, I’m very happy."
