Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate a ceasefire with Russia has revived an old question – when will the country be able to hold elections? Ukraine has been under martial law, which prohibits elections, since February 2022, when Russia launched its full-scale invasion. Reports suggest President Zelenskyy has ordered his team to organize a vote if a truce takes effect soon. IF that happened, a general election could take place as early as this summer – at a time when President Zelenskyy’s trust ratings have spiked.
