"There is a great diversity of pieces including pre-Hispanic works which are created before the Spanish colonization, as well as colonial, modern, and contemporary pieces. One of the most striking is a life-size warrior from the pre-colonial period, which highlights the importance of birds in traditional pre-Hispanic clothing."

"There is a diversity of cultures that have inhabited the territory, which maintains a symbolic, political, economic and spiritual connection with the 1,120 bird species currently found throughout the national territory. These (bird) species have been used as a resource and have served as a constant theme in the artistic productions of this region of the Americas."
