STORYLINE:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented Friday on Kremlin envoy’s Kirill Dmitriev’s visit to the U.S. this week, saying he believed he was discussing ways of releasing Russian frozen assets.
Dmitriev, the head of Russiaβs sovereign wealth fund, was sanctioned by the Biden administration after the conflict broke out in Ukraine.
The U.S. had to temporarily lift the restrictions to allow him to travel to Washington this week.
The meetings come about six weeks after top officials from Moscow and Washington met in Saudi Arabia in the highest-level direct talks since 2022.
"As for Dmitriev, we know the additional reasons why he was in the United States. In addition to that, he was not only the United States. We are monitoring the movements of our enemies and the main question is how to withdraw three hundred billion frozen assets? This is the main question." Zelenskyy said.
