A man convicted in a 2000 homicide has been executed by the state of Florida. Michael Tanzi, 48, died by lethal injection on Tuesday evening at the Florida State Prison. Tanzi confessed to the kidnapping and murder of Janet Acosta, who worked for the Miami Herald. Tanzi’s lawyers tried to stop the execution with several appeals, including one that argued that he was ‘morbidly obese’ and would thus suffer unduly from the lethal injection. But their appeals were not successful.
