“We’re keeping a close eye on it and we definitely are very concerned that it could get a lot higher and if that’s the case I could have a greater loss than I have right now. We’re just trying to do the best we can with maintaining this but if we get more coming on it’s definitely going to be a challenge to deal with it.”

“We had a pipe break earlier in the year and we’ve been going through some construction. So we were actually in the process of doing that and then this happened. It’s a little setback, but hopefully we’ll be able to dry it out and kind of start over again and get the rebuilding process going.”

STORYLINE:
Tony Kirves woke up this Friday morning to find his photography business, Southern Exposure, in downtown Hopkinsville, Kentucky, nearly flooded. With his rain boots on and the help of friends and family, he has placed sandbags at the base of the glass doors to prevent more water from entering, while using a pump to dry out the water already on the floor.

Large plastic sheets cover the photos on the wall.

“We’re keeping a close eye on it and we definitely are very concerned that it could get a lot higher [the water] and if that’s the case I could have a greater loss than I have right now. We’re just trying to do the best we can with maintaining this but if we get more [rain] coming on it’s definitely going to be a challenge to deal with it.”

For now, Kirves says he doesn’t know how much the damage will cost, but it’s going to take a lot of rebuilding, adding that he’s already been in some construction due to a pipe that broke earlier this year.

Kirves says Southern Exposure has been in business since 1989, and was flooded in 1997.

Parts of the Midwest and South have been battered by torrential rains and life-threatening flash floods.

Friday’s fresh storms come as many communities are still reeling from deadly tornadoes that destroyed entire neighborhoods.

Kentucky’s governor says floodwaters swept away and killed a boy Friday in his state.

Forecasters warn of more severe weather on the way.
