What will happen to the world economy as Trump’s global trade war escalates? | DW News

US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on dozens of countries, including allies, came in force on Wednesday. Hardest hit is China, which faces 104% in levies.

Beijing has vowed "countermeasures" and announced later on Wednesday that it would raise tariffs on US imports to 84%.

Meanwhile, the European Union agreed to go ahead with its retaliatory tariffs against the US, in response to a previously-announced levy on steel and aluminum imports. However, Brussels has yet to respond to Trump’s more recent announcement of a 20% on all imports from the EU.
