President Donald Trump has announced far-reaching new tariffs on nearly all U.S. trading partners. Small businesses are bracing for the impacts.
Trump, in a Rose Garden announcement, said he was placing elevated tariff rates on dozens of nations that run trade surpluses with the United States, while imposing a 10% baseline tax on imports from all countries in response to what he called an economic emergency.
India is one of many countries that will be targeted.
“We have like a lot of different products that Indian community uses namely rice, pastas, basmati rice, oils, [and] a wide range of snacks,” said Aindla, who manages Chalo India Supermarket & Eatery in Frisco, Texas. The store specializes in South Asian groceries, many of which are imported directly from India.

Trump said he was acting to bring in hundreds of billions in new revenue to the U.S. government and restore fairness to global trade.
