“About a year ago, I saw Raphael’s preparatory cartoon for ‘The School of Athens’ for the first time and I was fascinated about it. I’ve also noted some implications related to the art plundering that Raphael operated in order to construct this cartoon. He stole the perspectives from Bramante, the nuances from Leonardo, the monumentality of the figures. That’s where the spark came from that made me think about producing something about art crimes.”

“The preparatory cartoon of ‘The School of Athens’ is perhaps the only one in terms of size and importance, the most important code that history has left us. Incredibly, it survived the fate that all preparatory cartoons had, that of being recycled because they were not intended for the public but were a set of rules that led from the fresco project to the transfer on the wall.”

“Setting up an exhibition here is not a coincidence. In an era in which with artificial intelligence and the overload of images that bombard us, just think that in the Middle Ages a man could see thirteen new images in his lifetime, while we are bombarded with millions in a few seconds, so in this chaos into which the world has fallen, finding original codes, source codes of such importance, is fundamental to reconnect with a sort of humanism that we are losing in this transhuman era.”
