Thousands of kids are being thrown out onto the streets with no rights, even though they have rights. And then we put police pressure on them all over the country. Otherwise, it’s no more and no less than the welcome on the pavement that France wants."

"So ever since the evacuation from the Gaîté Lyrique, where 450 unaccompanied minors were occupying, the minors are scattered around Paris and 200 minors, approximately, were living here under the bridges of Paris at Pont Marie. The police is constantly putting pressure over them to be invisible in the capital. And ever since Friday, the minors have been informed that there would be an expulsion. It happened today.”

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of migrants were evacuated from the quays of the Seine early on Tuesday morning by law enforcement forces.

It marks the first day of the end of the winter truce – a period during which evictions are typically paused due to cold weather conditions.

According to the Utopia 56 association, around a hundred tents had been set up along the river bank.

The organization condemned the operation, with Yann Manzi, co-founder of the NGO Utopia 56, saying: "The wandering will continue. What do we do with it? This is what we’ve been going through for years."

Utopia 56 criticized the accommodation solutions offered during the evacuation, noting that the proposed locations are far from Paris, in cities such as Toulouse and Bourges. This distance poses significant challenges for the migrants who were residing under the bridges in the heart of the city.

Helene Goulhot, Coordinator of the Unaccompanied Minors programme at Médecins du Monde (Doctors of the World), highlighted the dispersed nature of the minors across Paris.

"The minors are scattered around Paris, and approximately 200 minors were living here under the bridges," she said.

The evacuation follows a similar operation on March 18, when police cleared the Gaîté Lyrique, which had been occupied by around 450 young migrants claiming to be minors and seeking accommodation.
