STORYLINE:
Dozens of people in the Gaza Strip mourned a Palestinian journalist who was killed along with his wife and children by an Israeli airstrike early Tuesday, according to health officials.

Mohamed Saleh al-Bardwil, a journalist with Al-Aqsa radio, was killed along with his wife and their three children by the strike that hit their home in western part of the southern city of Khan Younis, officials at Nasser Hospital confirmed.

Footage by The Associated Press showed the building completely collapsed and blood on the rubble along with scattered pieces of paper, a child’s school notebook, dolls covered with dirt and clothes.

Fathi Nushasi, a Khan Younis resident who lived nearby, said the airstrike felt like an earthquake.

"I have witnessed many wars, but I have never witnessed anything like what happened to us. The rubble entered our bedroom," he said.

Dozens gathered at the Nasser Hospital for funeral prayers, where the bagged bodies of the family members were brought.

A press vest was placed over al-Bardwil’s body.

One man cried out in anguish, "Those were children sleeping," just after they celebrated Eid al-Fitr.
