1. Wide of protest
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Dikla Oron, protester:
"I’m here for my grandkids because my parents have helped build this country. They came from all over and they worked really hard to build their wonderful country. And this country has been kidnapped by a very, very bad government, which is turning it into a dictatorship. And I’m really worried about the future of my grandkids here. And so this is why me and my friends and all the people of our generation are fighting. We can’t let this miracle, which is the land of Israel, coming alive, go to waste because it has been kidnapped by people who care nothing about justice or truth, and all they care about is power and money and control, basically. "
3. Sign reading (in English) "How much more blood will be spilled"
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Michal Porat, protester from Tel Aviv:
"I think the whole world should see our pain. And I mean not only our pain, all the territory, everybody in this area. We are suffering. We need to put an end to this suffering by doing some peace talks. We need peace talks and for that we need the help of Qatar people, of Egyptian people. And of course, I’m glad we are getting the help from the American administration. "
5. Wide of protest
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Yehuda Maayan, protester from Nahariya:
"I’m here for two reasons. One is because I care about living in a democracy. Two is because I care about my brothers and sisters who are in Gaza in the tunnels dying. So these are the two reasons; democracy, protecting democracy and protecting my brothers and sisters. "
7. Sign reading in English "End the bloodshed"
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Moshe Radman, protester from Tel Mond:
"The people of Israel want to bring back the hostages. And this government is leaving them in the hands of Hamas. The people of Israel want democracy, and this government is trying to create some kind of a dictatorship. So I’m here to tell the government, enough is enough. We want elections and we want Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to go home."
9. More of protest
STORYLINE:
Israelis gathered outside the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Monday, to protest against his handling of the Gaza hostage crisis and his recent moves to fire or sideline top officials.
Israel ended its ceasefire with the Hamas militant group and renewed its air and ground war earlier this month.
At the beginning of March it cut off all supplies of food, fuel, medicine and humanitarian aid to the territory’s roughly 2 million Palestinians to pressure Hamas to accept proposed changes to the truce agreement.
Protesters on Monday condemned the government’s decision to return to war.
"We are suffering. We need to put an end to this suffering by doing some peace talks," one said.
Yehuda Maayan came especially from the Northern Israeli town of Nahariya for the protest.
"I’m here for two reasons. One is because I care about living in a democracy. Two is because I care about my brothers and sisters who are in Gaza in the tunnels dying," he said.
Israel has vowed to intensify its military operations until Hamas releases the remaining 59 hostages it holds – 24 of them believed to be alive.
Israel has also demanded that Hamas disarm and leave the territory, conditions that were not included in the ceasefire agreement and which Hamas has rejected.
Hamas has insisted on implementing the signed agreement, which called for the remainder of the hostages to be released in exchange for a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli pull-out.
