"We gave everything we had. And now we have to give away, as they say, minerals. Let’s sign a deal, oil and gas. Well, there are different discussions at this level. And I really don’t like it. Because the world has to understand that it is the world that owes us, in fact. Because we stopped this plague, this fascism, at the cost of the lives of those who are buried here and those who are now holding the frontline there. And in fact, we are still being asked to give something more, to make a deal, instead of putting pressure on the aggressor and pointing out that it is the aggressor who is guilty, Russia is guilty. And Russia needs to be asked, and it needs to be pressured. They are putting pressure on the victim, on us. It is very unpleasant, it is very painful for us."

But in order to prevent revenge from those relatives who identified Russians, who know the phone numbers of the Russians who were here, so they do not take revenge. For these people to have peace in their hearts, it is very important that the crimes are prosecuted.”

STORYLINE:
Ukrainian officials, soldiers and residents gathered to mark three years since Ukrainian forces retook the town of Bucha.
Russian troops quickly occupied Bucha after invading Ukraine and stayed for about a month.
When Ukrainian troops retook the town, they found what became known as the epicentre of the war’s atrocities.
Mass graves of civilians were discovered and thousands of war crimes were documented after it was retaken in March 2022.
This year’s commemoration was overshadowed by political developments with many Ukrainians expressing displeasure at the state of ceasefire negotiations with Russia.
According to Ukrainian government and military analysts, Russian forces are preparing to launch a fresh military offensive in the coming weeks to maximize pressure on Kyiv and strengthen the Kremlin’s negotiating position in ceasefire talks.
