STORYLINE:
Yemenis in their thousands took to the streets of Sanaa on Friday to show solidarity with Palestinians and to protest intense airstrikes targeting Houthi rebels.
Protesters marked “Quds Day,” or Jerusalem Day, a traditional show of support for the Palestinians.
The name Quds Day comes after the Arabic name for Jerusalem.
Demonstrators chanted "Boycott American and Israeli goods," held rifles and Palestinian flags. It was attended by the Yemeni First Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed Miftah.
They also protested a new American airstrike campaign against the country’s Houthi rebels, which appeared more intense and more extensive.
The U.S. has moved from solely targeting launch sites to firing at ranking personnel as well as dropping bombs in city neighborhoods, an Associated Press review of the operation shows.
It comes after the Iran-backed Houthis threatened to resume attacking “any Israeli vessel” and have repeatedly fired at Israel over the country’s refusal to allow aid into the Gaza Strip.
