RR7532A PORTUGAL: WHICH WAY THE REVOLUTION?

(10 Aug 1975) 7532: PORTUGAL: WHICH WAY THE REVOLUTION?

The Portuguese revolution is in trouble. The Army is
playing an increasingly political role and is meeting
growing opposition – especially in the more conservative
North – from people who feel it is pushing the country
towards a Communist regime despite the party’s poor showing
in last April’s elections. There is trouble abroad too, in
Angola, the African colony soon to become independent.
This report backgrounds the main issues and personalities.
