1. French far-right leader Jordan Bardella arriving at the Nova music festival site
2. SOUNDBITE (French) Jordan Bardella, French far-right leader:
"There was a lot of violence and hatred following October 7th and again just a few hours ago, in the streets of France, in the streets of Orléans, where a rabbi was attacked in front of his child because he was Jewish, because he was wearing a kippah. So I think and I very sincerely believe that our compatriots of Jewish faith, beyond the extremely political remarks made by French associations, know the sincerity of our commitment and know that the threat today weighing on their security, on their freedom, is Islamic fundamentalism and the Islamic fundamentalism that killed here on October 7th."

4. SOUNDBITE (French) Jordan Bardella, French far-right leader:
"It is Islamic fundamentalism that threatens the Israeli nation. And it is Islamic fundamentalism that is today the existential threat that has killed several dozen, even several hundred, of our compatriots since Mohammed Merah’s attacks in Toulouse and Montauban in 2012. So there you have it, I think that French people of Jewish faith know the sincerity of our commitment, that of Marine Le Pen, who has always been irreproachable on this subject. And I believe that we appear today as an extremely solid foundation and as a shield for our compatriots of Jewish faith."

STORYLINE:
French far-right leader Jordan Bardella visited on Wednesday the site of Israel’s Nova music festival, which was attacked by Hamas, to defend his party’s commitment to the Jewish people and to condemn Islamic fundamentalism as the main threat to Israel and Europe.

The site in southern Israel where the open-air Tribe of Nova music festival took place stands today as a bleak testimony of what happened, with posters of the faces of those killed and kidnapped from the site on Oct. 7 by Hamas militants.

Near Kibbutz Be’eri and only 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the Gaza Strip, the site was one of Hamas’ first targets.

After surging over the border, Hamas gunmen emptied rounds of live ammunition on the revelers, including hand grenades and mortar fire, killing over 260 people in what has become the biggest civilian massacre in Israeli history.

Bardella, the leader of France’s far-right National Rally, sought to throw off his party’s historical links to antisemitism and focus instead on what he described as the "existential threat" of Islamic fundamentalism.

"I believe that we appear today as an extremely solid foundation and as a shield for our compatriots of Jewish faith," he said.
