Why did Ghanaian journalist Anas file his defamation lawsuit to the US? | DW News

Ghanian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has won $18 million in damages after taking a member of Ghana’s parliament to court for defamation in the US.

Anas sued former MP Kennedy Agyapong after he called him a criminal and accused him of being involved in the killing of another journalist on a podcast.

Anas had inititally sued Agyapong in Ghana but after losing there in court, he brought suit in New Jersey as well.

The journalist, who protects his anonymity with a veil, joined DW to discuss the case and his work.
