“We entered all these areas. As we moved between villages and regions where attacks occurred against public security personnel, as well as areas where civilians were targeted, we noticed that the region was not safe. Our movements were based on the committee’s insistence and request. The protection teams accompanying us exercised extreme caution, repeatedly urging us to leave quickly, as armed groups, referred to as the remnants of the regime, were dispersed in the surrounding areas."

STORYLINE:
The investigative committee tasked with inquiring into the revenge attacks on Syria’s coastal region said Tuesday they had listened to almost 100 testimonies and received dozens of written and recorded civilian and military statements.
The committee met with "official civil, military, security, police, and judicial authorities in both joint and separate sessions," as well as " hundreds of family members and witnesses," Yasser al-Farhan, the spokesperson for the committee, said at a news conference. He declined to elaborate on the committee’s findings so far.
