"To the Ecuadorian people, we want to say that we have deeply analyzed the government proposals of the two candidates (for the presidency of Ecuador), but we see that aptly that Daniel Noboa is the one who is closer to the peoples and nationalities. He is the one who responds to the proposals that we aspire for this new moment of Ecuador, for this moment for the peoples and nationalities."

STORYLINE:
Indigenous communities on Tuesday backed President Daniel Noboa in the second round of Ecuador’s April presidential election against his rival, lawyer Luisa Gonzalez.
Ecuadorians are scheduled to go to the polls on April 13 to choose between Noboa or Gonzales as the next president.
During a press briefing in Ecuador’s capital, members of the Intercultural Confederation of Peoples and Nationalities of Ecuador (AMARU) cheered on their support for Noboa.
"We see aptly that Daniel Noboa is the one who is closer to the peoples and nationalities,” said Luis Simbaña, President of the Intercultural Confederation of Peoples and Nationalities of Ecuador, adding that the proposals for both candidates had been "deeply analyzed."
"He is the one who responds to the proposals that we aspire for this new moment of Ecuador, for this moment for the peoples and nationalities," he said.
The AMARU is made up of Indigenous peoples, workers, entrepreneurs, men and women, young people, farmers, artisans, professionals, transporters, traders, and others.
This is the second time that both candidates face each other in a second presidential round.
The first time was in 2023, when Noboa won.
Noboa, a young millionaire, came to power with the National Democratic Action party to complete the mandate of former president Guillermo Lasso, who dissolved the Assembly and thus shortened his term.
He has shown himself to be a pragmatic and economically liberal politician, concerned with attracting investments, putting the fiscal coffers in order and trying to confront an incessant spiral of criminal violence.
González, who is backed by former leftist president Rafael Correa (2007-2017), favors a model focused on state spending to generate economic dynamism and strengthen strategic sectors such as energy and infrastructure.
In terms of security, she has said she would implement a proposal based on equity and peaceful coexistence.
