STORYLINE:
1. The 2025 Annual Meeting of the China Development Forum was held in Beijing. This year’s theme was "Unleashing Development Momentum for the Stable Growth of the Global Economy," attracting many foreign dignitaries and heads of multinational companies to China. Does the foreign ministry have any comments on this?
This year’s annual meeting attracted more than 750 foreign representatives. The range of countries represented by participating multinational companies is broader, the number of first-time participating multinational companies is higher, and the industry categories covered are more comprehensive. This indicates that foreign companies continue to be optimistic about China and are investing more in China, casting a vote of confidence in the prospects of China’s economic development.
China will unswervingly promote high-quality development and high-level opening up, welcoming enterprises from all countries to seize opportunities, invest in China, plan for the future, jointly promote global economic stability and growth, and jointly resist unilateralism and protectionism, achieving greater development through mutual benefit.
2. According to media reports, Canada has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) opposing China’s tariffs on Canadian agricultural and fishery products. What is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ response?
For the specific issue, please check with the relevant Chinese authorities. It must be pointed out that Canada, in disregard of China’s repeated persuasion, insists on taking discriminatory restrictive measures against some Chinese imports, seriously violating WTO rules, disrupting normal trade order, and severely damaging China’s legitimate rights and interests. China’s countermeasures are entirely justified, reasonable, and lawful.
We urge Canada to take concrete actions to correct its wrong practices and provide a fair, non-discriminatory, and predictable environment for normal trade and cooperation between enterprises of the two countries.
3. U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Monday announcing that any country purchasing oil and gas from Venezuela will be subject to a 25% tariff when trading with the U.S. China is Venezuela’s largest oil buyer. Will China stop purchasing oil from Venezuela because of this?
The U.S. has long abused illegal unilateral sanctions and so-called long-arm jurisdiction, grossly interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. China firmly opposes this. We call on the U.S. to stop interfering in Venezuela’s internal affairs, abolish illegal unilateral sanctions against Venezuela, and do more to promote peace and stable development in Venezuela and other countries. Trade wars and tariff wars have no winners. Imposing tariffs will only cause greater losses to American businesses and consumers.
4. We have noted that Under-Secretary-General for Policy of UN Guy Ryder emphasized China’s importance in supporting multilateralism and the United Nations at a seminar hosted by China. Could the spokesperson provide more details?
5. China has reportedly released five staff of the due diligence firm Mintz Group after nearly two years in detention. Why were they released only now after two years?
As for your specific question, I would refer you to the competent Chinese authority.
9. The Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus will visit China starting Wednesday. What are China’s expectations for this visit?
