5. Wide of New York’s Empire State Building switching off lights to mark Earth Hour
STORYLINE:
Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue switched off its lights to mark Earth Hour.
New York’s Empire State Building also turned off its lights and joined the global campaign on Saturday evening.
Earth Hour is an annual event to raise awareness about issues affecting the environment, mainly climate change.
This year, the Earth Hour movement asked for a global switch off at 20:30 locally.
