“Through everything that has happened, the men and women who deliver our mail have delivered literally for us. And now we face yet another significant threat. One, I think, unlike any other threat that we have faced. And that is the threat from an unelected billionaire, Elon Musk, (crowd booing), and his desire to privatize and end the United States Postal Service as we know it. Hell, no, we’re not going to let Elon Musk rip away our Postal Service from us. We are not going to let him get his grubby hands on the Postal Service.”

STORYLINE:
Postal workers upset by how the Trump administration’s talks about changing the U.S. Postal Service gathered Thursday outside a Philadelphia post office, as part of a broader "Day of Action" by the American Postal Workers Union around the country.
Workers warn that if Trump administration takes over USPS or privatizes the service, it will mean higher prices for consumers, job cuts and reduced services especially in rural areas.
Trump has been a critic of the Postal Service since his first term in office. He had mentioned in the past the idea of privatizing the service given the competition it faced from Amazon, UPS, FedEx and others.
Recently, Trump said he may put the U.S. Postal Service under the control of the Commerce Department in what would be an executive branch takeover of the agency, which has operated as an independent entity since 1970.
