"For me to be here and to come back here after 23 years, it’s very emotional and there is like a reflection between Eden (Dambrine) and myself because I remember when I was here the first time with ‘Rosetta.’ It was like a very powerful movie with this main character, which is in every scene, every, every shot. STORYLINE:
Reports say Belgian award-winning actor Émilie Dequenne has died, age 43.
In a statement to AFP, her family said she died of a rare cancer in hospital outside Paris on Sunday.
Married to director and producer Michel Ferracci, she also leaves a daughter, Milla Savarese.
Dequenne’s first role as a teenager was in the Dardenne brothers’ 1999 movie "Rosetta" which earnt her the best actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival, while the feature itself picked up the top honor of the Palme d’Or.
It was the start of a very successful acclaimed career in European cinema, with roles in titles like "Pas son genre," "This Is Our Land" and "Close."
In "À perdre la raison" or "Our Children," directed by Joachim Lafosse, Dequenne was once again honored in Cannes – picking up the best actress award in 2012’s Un Certain Regard selection.
She is also known for appearing as police officer Laurence Renauld in TV thriller series "The Missing" in 2014.
In 2021, Dequenne’s portrayal of Louise in Emmanuel Mouret’s "Les Choses qu’on dit, les choses qui’on fait" ("The Things We Say, The Things We Do") saw her win the best supporting actress trophy at the César Awards.
