STORYLINE:
Investigators on Saturday continued searching for a US college student from Virginia who vanished earlier this month while visiting the Dominican Republic with five other people during spring break from classes.
Sudiksha Konanki was last seen March 6 during a power outage at the Riu República Hotel in the beach resort town of Punta Cana.
Dominican police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are involved in the search for Konanki, a 20-year-old student from the University of Pittsburgh.
Earlier in the week, prosecutors questioned 22-year-old Joshua Riibe, who was the last person seen with Konanki.
On Friday, local media reported that in a transcript of an interview with prosecutors, Riibe said he was with Konanki before she disappeared but declined to answer key questions about Konanki’s disappearance.
Those questions included how police could verify what he said was true, what he told friend about what happened to Konanki, if Konanki knew how to swim and what he thought about her disappearance.
On Saturday, state prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynosa arrived at a hotel for further questioning of Riibe, who at that moment, hadn’t been charged.
