A sexual harassment allegation in Nigeria’s Senate has ignited a debate over sexism within its conservative ranks. Senator Natasha Akpoti has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of soliciting sexual favors from her — an accusation he denies. Following the claim, she was suspended from office. Tensions escalated at a demonstration in the capital, Abuja, in support of Senator Akpoti. Protesters and rights organizations are demanding a transparent investigation and advocating for gender equality. Currently, only four of the Senate’s 109 members are women.
