As the US economy recovered from its post-pandemic inflationary period in 2023, experts warned of the risk of stagflation. While inflation continued its downward trajectory into late 2024, that risk seemed to diminish. However, weaker-than-expected economic data and projected negative GDP growth for the first quarter of 2025 have made the possibility of near-term stagflation suddenly very real.
