STORYLINE:
Vice President JD Vance toured a plastics manufacturing facility in Bay City, Michigan, and promised “a great American comeback" in manufacturing — even as he urged patience for it to fully materialize.

“This is not always easy, and it doesn’t happen overnight,” Vance told about 100 attendees during an event Friday at Vantage Plastics. He also said: “The road ahead of us is long.”

The Trump administration raising tariffs on neighboring Canada has especially concerned some Michigan businesses, but Vance defended higher tariffs.

“If you want to be penalized, build outside of America,” he said.

Among those in attendance was Justin Crosby, who works for a construction company in nearby Midland, Michigan.

The 35-year-old supported Republican Donald Trump in the 2024 election and acknowledged keeping up with the first few months of his presidency has been hard.

Still, he remains confident Trump will help lower costs, saying: “It takes a long time to unravel all the craziness that’s happened over the last four years.”
